The houses in Barberton
Barberton was not a village that grew. O. C. Barber bought land from Norton Township in 1891 and laid out a town, intending it as a model for industrial and residential development together. The early streets were put in by his Barberton Land and Improvement Company.
When the Panic of 1893 hit, Barber moved the Diamond Match Company plant down from Akron to keep the place working. The boom that followed is where the nickname Magic City comes from.
The legacy for a buyer is a compact, walkable grid of early 1900s houses near the centre, with later building spreading outward. Barber’s own Anna Dean Farm covered 3,500 acres, and its 1912 Beaux Arts piggery is on the National Register, which tells you something about the scale he was working at.
Houses here tend to be older and smaller than the county average, and they move. The one I listed on Wilsonway went under contract in under sixty hours at twenty-five thousand over asking, which is not typical and is not a promise, but it is what the right house correctly priced can do in this market.

Common questions
Why is Barberton called the Magic City? Because of how fast it grew after O. C. Barber moved the Diamond Match works there following the Panic of 1893. The town was founded in 1891 and boomed almost immediately.
What should I expect from an older Barberton house? A lot of the stock near the centre is early 1900s, which means smaller rooms, older systems and, often, good bones. Have the inspector look closely at electrical service, plumbing material and the roof, and price the work in rather than being surprised by it.
